An evening of prestige and honor. It was a night of recognition for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) as exceptional students and laudable organizations were showcased during the Gabi ng Parangal last March 20, 2010 at the Plaza Montserrat.
The event formally started with an opening number by the multi-talented Bedan Dance Theatre (BDT), followed by the welcoming remarks given by Prof. Matilde Santos, Prefect of Student Affairs.
Half-way through the program, Electoral Board (ELBO) Chairpersons Stephany Sison and Jon Ballesteros spearheaded the turnover of positions and the oath-taking of the newly elected officers of the Student Council (SC).
The presentation of outstanding activities of the year followed as several organizations were awarded, including the Bedan Advocacy and Consciousness Enhancement Society (BACES) for the Best Socio-Cultural Organization, The Bedan Mathematical Circle for the Best Special Interest Organization, and the the Junior Institute of Accountants for the Best Academic Related Activity for their “League of Accounting Wizards”.
More, San Beda Theological Circle received four awards for Best Religious Organization, Best Exhibit, Best Religious Activity, and Best Cultural Activity for its entry “Birheng Montserrat: Ina ng Sambayanang Bedista”
The Junior Financial Management Association (JFINMA) likewise received two awards for Best Inter-School Activity and Best Outreach Activity for their entries “ING: Investment Roadshow ‘-09 Responding to Challenges” and “Share, Provide and Interest: Widen Financial Consciousness of the Youth” whereas Management and Entrepreneurship Society (MANSOC) was awarded for Outstanding Activity of the Year for “IBEM Conference 2010″
In line with the success of MANSOC, the Moderator of the Year Award was given to Prof. Eric Pasquin, M0derator of the said organization.
Lastly, the Junior Bedan Law Circle (JBLC) made their school year remarkable as they bested out all other organizations for winning the Most Outstanding Organization Award, and was also named Best Professional Organization and Most Innovative Activity for “Photo Extemporaneous Speech Contest”.
Highlights of the grand spectacle also included the awarding of the five Exemplary Students of the CAS where Jennelyn Rose Denosta (4BLM) anked first, followed by John Tobit Cruz (3BPS) as runner-up and Marvin Martija (4AAC) in third, while Kimberly Joy Caparas (4ABE) and Edaine Ricci Dy (4AAC) were recognized as forth and fifth placers, respectively.
In an interview with The Bedan, Prof. Matilde Santos assessed the activities held in the CAS for this school year.
“The student organizations in general were very much involved in the activities of the school. Most organization were able to hold their activities as planned,” she evaluated.
